Farewell and tons of luck!

12:00 PM on Wed Feb 24 2010

By Adrianne

From time to time we are faced with difficult decisions in life. But when you know that the future brings great opportunities, these decisions are made just a bit easier.

The VIP and Loyalty teams just said goodbye to a great host and wonderful friend. Our girl Andrea is spreading her wings and taking on new challenges. She will start working on another of her passions, physical therapy.

Although she left and she will be missed we’ll be in touch and we’ll surely play some poker soon!

I know all of you will join me in wishing her the best of luck on her new ventures!

Share the good luck!

Oh well…we all know envy is a bad feeling we should always avoid and never let it get into our lives…but OMG!!! Sometimes you just can’t go with the flow haha. UBOC4 is over now, but people from our Payments Dept will have to work extra hours these days to shoot all that money to all winners’ accounts.

I’m honestly impressed to see how successful this year’s UBOC4 was. All our tourneys did great and prizes went beyond expectations. What impresses me the most is to see how some players happened to cash out thousands at several events…I mean, I already consider you lucky enough when you cash at one regular event, but cashing at several UBOC tourneys…c’mon dudes! That’s a lot!

And when I say lucky, I don’t mean poker is a game based on luck, what I mean is that you guys are extremely lucky because you count on this amazing skill. You are strategists, and honestly, it’s thrilling to me how you put your thoughts and strategies on the table to take control and make the rest feel afraid of your presence. I’m 100% honest here; I’d just love someone to teach me how to do that great magic! I could use a couple of extra thousands weekly!

Anyway, I really wanted to thank you all for being part of this success! AbsolutePoker players along with UB players gave their best last week and made a 5 stars parade by showing skills and professionalism to the world. AbsolutePoker does count on really good professional poker players and the UBOC4 results are our best evidence. Thanks for playing, thanks for joining and most important, thanks for leading us to constant improvement. This is an open invitation for everyone to feel free to let us know about any feedback or comments you may come up with. Check our sites and get to meet this year’s winners. I promise you’ll find nothing but great and committed class A players.

Cheers! Enjoy your money!

My AP Story

03:00 PM on Fri Dec 18 2009

By NUTINSIDER

2009 is my third year playing full time.  How did I start on AP?  In December 2006, during break from finals, I was super bored, like I mean REALLY bored.  How bored?  Well, let’s just say prison inmates who were sentenced to solitary confinement weren’t as bored as I was.  I decided to create an account on AP, my initial name was amazing, even better than my current.  Heinous_Anus.  This name didn’t last long, apparently it offended some people.  Whatever.  Anyways, I chose AP because AP had 9 person sit n gos instead of 10, previously I dabbled on bodog, where a sit n go would seat 10, thus reducing the cash rate to 30% instead of 33%.  I presumed my chances were better on AP.

They were.

I did well.  I was still delivering pizza and finishing my economics degree at the time.  I was an idiot and decided a sample of like 900 sit n gos was enough for me to stop my job and play on AP full time.  Of course, I wasn’t giving up a lot, for my job paid only 15 dollars an hour but the 15 dollars an hour suited me just fine, especially while I was a student.

One night in 2007 I decided to play some multi table tournaments on AP, I think I played the 8 pm 10k guaranteed, it was like a 50 dollar buy in, first was 3k or something.  I basically was super lucky and won the tournament for 3k.  I thought I was awesome and I could like do that every night.  That summer I did, I ended up winning the 30r, at the 100 dollar freeze out, and both of the 50 dollar freeze outs in a weeks time. bye bye sit n gos!

Or so I thought…

I continued to play mtt’s across most sites, I made a good bit of dough, enough to keep me from getting a job after graduation, unfortunately I wasn’t smart enough to realize how far above expectation I was at for my buy in level.  I hit a downswing in fall 2007.  2008 rolled around and it wasn’t much better, I liked AP’s tournaments because the overall fields were a tad softer than other sites.  I dabbled in local cash games and live tourneys.  I decided to try playing live tourneys full time and stuff.  My first one was a 300 dollar buy in at the beau rivage, it was my first significant score, we chopped 3 handed when effective stacks had like 12bb, I realize now that this was an error, as I was way better than my opponents and the money wasn’t life changing.  It was my first live 5 figure score and I was pretty happy.  I then realized again how stupid I was, traveling costs were such a huge percentage of my buy in that it made no sense to pay like 35% in food/plane/gas/etc.

So I was in limbo for a bit.  I knew I wanted to play but didn’t know what game I should focus on.  MTT’s had a ton of variance that made me sad, I don’t think I am good at online cash games, “wait, what about sit n gos, that’s it, I will do that again!”

So I did.

In july 2008 I made my return to AP.  It has been the best decision I have made in my brief poker career.  Many might wonder “why AP, bigger player network on other sites, why not go there?”

That question is so easy to answer, and the answer is “I like money”

AP and the Cereus network offer the most “bonus” money.  No joke man, the most.  Credits for cash, reload bonus, free rolls, rake back, rake races, rake races via rake back sites, interest bearing accounts, tournament leaderboards, and probably more I can’t think of.

Since I get bored a lot I decided to calculate the amount of rakeback I have received since july 2008, the total was an astounding 79%.  That’s right, with an avg buy in in the 80-100 range, you can achieve nearly 80% rakeback if you factor in all the free money AP is generous enough to dole out.

This makes me especially happy since I am in the middle of my worst downswing ever; i think I have lost 19,200 buy ins now in the past 6 months or so, awesome. =)

Just remember, if your stack ever GETS DOWN LOW, you aren’t out of it, on the cereus network I have made comebacks from as little as 15 chips….pretty neato since like 9000 were in play.  It’s important not to just spit on it and call it a game after you suffer a crippling blow.  Insert chips and chair reference here.

So yeah, the cereus network knows how to attract players and keep em coming back for more, sorta like a good woman.  It worked on me.

The Epic Nine

12:00 PM on Wed Nov 11 2009

By Jake

After a waiting of almost 4 months, the excitement of the Main Event final table finally unfolded. If last saturday you followed the action through a News site, as I did, I´m sure you´ve been sweating every single update.

While I was reading one of those sites, I noticed something interesting that Gene Broomberg also mentioned on his blog last Sunday, the Main Event winner will take home a seven figure amount that surpasses the prizes of other major sports like golf, tennis, auto-racing, even if you combine the top prizes of many of those events, it won´t be as much as the No Limit Holdem Champion this year.

Maybe you are one of those who prefer to wait and watch the ESPN broadcast, which was expected to be on the air yesterday, I´m sure you were crossing your fingers for your favorite to take home the title. I haven´t been able to watch it yet, just in case you haven´t either, I won´t say the name of the winner :-)

Our own Main Event will be played today, and this one you can watch it live, The Epic Nine Main Event will start tonight at 21:00 ET, the 11th time Bracelet Winner Phil will be there, also several great players as 7TEMPEHEAT7, BIGDOGPCKT5S, XJKPOKERX and the name who razed the Epic 9 Ring Games Daily Leaderboard:  JH659JC.

Drop me a line…

12:00 PM on Wed Sep 16 2009

By Joey

Hi there! My name is Joey. I´m VIP Host at Absolute Poker and from now on I’ll have the pleasure of blogging from time to time on this new and pretty cool blog Absolute Poker just created for all the poker community.

The first blog it is always difficult. There are so many things to talk about, but it is so complicated to pick one and develop an interesting text. So, I guess, I´ll take this opportunity to let you know a little bit more about the VIP Team. You might like to know, we do have a cool job. It is pretty unique!

Basically, the VIP Team takes care of the TOP Online and Live Poker players by delivering a first class one on one service that no one else offers within the poker community. It is a great project that has been working for more than 2 years now and it’s been a blast.

We have been going through so many different things, including, awesome poker players, promotions, important events, new software/loyalty programs and of course VIP Hosts, but all of them have only taught us that Poker it is not a game only.  It is a way of living and we are lucky enough to have a job on this revolutionary business.

This might sound cheesy, but it is the truth. All the VIP Hosts sitting next to me, do like what they do and enjoy the experience every single day. Yeah!  Every single day because we get to learn about you and what you like on a daily basis and this is actually the main purpose of offering this kind of service.

Obviously, players are important for us, too, and we do talk about you and the time I’ve spent talking to you over the phone or chat, about your online and live poker events, friends, family or countries, out of the office! hehehe 

I know it sounds crazy and it is, but I’m just letting you know about this, so you can get an idea of the impact you have on our lives. Obviously, I am not complaining. You guys are awesome and very wise persons, so it will be always a pleasure.

AP has changed a lot during the last years and also the VIP Team, all thanks to you. Actually, both of us have grown-up up together and learned from each other and we plan on keep doing it. I am pretty sure this will get better and better every day.

It is not that difficult when we have players that also care about us and like the service we offer.

So it’s been said, we will be glad to hear from you whenever you want. You just need to do what The Beatles once said or sang, actually: ♫ Send me a postcard, drop me a line… stating point of view. Indicate precisely what you mean to say. Yours sincerely…♫ ;)

Good luck at the tables bloggers!
