Let Absolute Buddy Be Your New Best Friend

03:00 PM on Mon Mar 8 2010

By softeam

Could there be a friendlier game than poker?  From weekly poker nights in college dorms to cross-generational games played at the family card table, poker brings people together.

Even online, poker can be a highly social activity, especially when you invite your friends or take advantage of our built in chat feature.  Did you know that putting an even friendlier spin on your poker play is simple when you take advantage of Absolute Buddy?

Absolute Buddy is an applet built right into our game client that lets you see when your friends, favorite players, or pros are online.   It’s built on the same technology as Google chat, msn, AOL instant messenger, and other popular IM clients.  Imagine being able to track everyone you care about and quickly find where they’re seated whenever they visit Absolute Poker.

You can add anyone to your list with a quick click.  With another click, you can take your seat at your buddy’s table.  Take advantage of the handy notes feature to give yourself the inside scoop whenever you meet a familiar face.   The informative sound effects will let you know when your crew shows up or sneaks out the back door.  If you’re worried about your enemies tracking your every move, there’s a block feature that gives you the power of invisibility, at least online.

Click here to see Absolute Buddy in action.

Don’t forget that you can easily track all the Absolute Poker pros using Absolute Buddy.  Take a look at their ids and watch the masters (and mistresses) in action.

Beer, Babes, Boobies…and Matt Vengrin?!

12:00 PM on Thu Mar 4 2010

By Trishelle

Hey guys! This past Thursday, Matt V. and I were lucky enough to attend a poker event for Absolute at Hooters in Hollywood. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Clearly, I’m from the south and I’ve been to a Hooters (NO, I’ve never worked there. Har har har). The girls at Hooters in LA, though, are just…hot. I brought my guy friend, who was obviously just happy to be there, along with a girlfriend and one of the gays. The whole set up was pretty cool. It was the entire upstairs of the Hooters on Hollywood Blvd. They had about 3 or 4 poker tables set up for people to play poker (play money of course) and these really cute dealer girls and all the free beer and chicken wings you could eat. You guys have to look up these events on Absolute Poker to find out when they are. There were tons of people so excited to be there!

Matt was the host and he was helping teach people how to play both at tables and online. Everyone loved it and him. They had a tv screen set up so that he could play poker online and we could watch what he was doing. That’s pretty huge. Many online players hate it when people watch them play and this can really help people. In between that, Matt went over and sat with people at different tables and helped people who really didn’t understand the game.

I sat at a table with my friend and about 5 strangers and started playing. Normally, I can’t play unless I know it’s for real money. I’ve always been this way, even before I played poker. I swear my gramma and I would bet pennies playing Go Fish when I was 8. This time it was actually fun though. Since they weren’t allowed to play with real money, they had a prize for chip leader at the table. I ended up winning my table (honestly, there were 3 beginners there and I am not the person to play nice, haha) I did not take the prize though, the 2nd place winner at my table won a nice NY Yankees jacket along with a good time and a crush on the dealer. He was happy.

I really hope they keep doing these Hooters events. The turn out was pretty good! People were able to sign up for Absolute and they did, they received tickets for drinks and free food and to play at a table with a chance to win a prize. Not a bad deal at all. And everyone had a really good time, including myself. Can’t wait for the next one!

WHO DAT !

12:00 PM on Tue Feb 2 2010

By Trishelle

I mean…The Saints. UNREAL! I am still in shock from their win. I was born and raised in Cut Off, Louisiana, which is a very tiny town about an hour south of New Orleans. (YES you can go south of N.O.) Anyway, pretty much since I was a baby I was a Saints fan. That’s just what you do in Louisiana. You eat crawfish, you drink hurricanes, and you watch the Saints on Sunday afternoons. This season has been like a dream for us die hard fans. It had its ups and downs for sure. I wasn’t sure how far we would make it in the playoffs and for sure didn’t think it would end up like it did.

I knew January 24th would be a big day. I put on my #9 jersey and headed over to a friend’s house in Venice Beach with my girl Kelly. We actually cabbed it all the way from west Hollywood to Venice (it’s a trek and I DO NOT EVER drink and drive) with 3 bottles of champagne ready to celebrate our win. I had a good feeling…

We get to my friend’s house and what do I see? They have a freaking VIKINGS rug on the floor! What is this?! They were all Vikings fans. I couldn’t believe I walked into that mess. Some of the guys were wearing Vikings jerseys and they were all giving me crap! The beginning of the game was a mess for me. Minnesota touchdown, Saints, touchdown, again, again. AGH! I was dying. I kept calling my daddy back in Louisiana, who was watching the game on the house boat so that he could calm me down.

I’m sure everyone saw the game, so I won’t bore you with details you already know. Bottom line, I was standing for the last 30 minutes. Overtime! Aaaaand we win it by 3. I don’t care what anyone says. Vikings gave us that game, blah blah, turnovers, blah blah. We won. The SAINTS are going to the Superbowl and that is all that she wrote.

Matt Vengrin and I had a little bet going. He was going to take me to dinner anywhere I want if Saints won and I would have had to do his laundry (my least favorite household chore) if Minnesota won. I was actually so confident that I would win this bet that I told him I would do his laundry in booty shorts. Haha. I am happy to say, Matt, that you will be taking me to the most expensive place in LA :) And I cannot WAIT for Superbowl Sunday for the Saints to whip up on the Colts!

APCC Dinner

12:00 PM on Fri Jan 29 2010

By Trishelle

I finally got to meet Matt Vengrin! Last week I went to dinner with a few of the guys who made the final table for APCC. They were filming the final table the next day at Bluff Studios, so the night before we went to a Mexican place in Venice Beach (which I love) for dinner and drinks. Thanks AP! :) Joe Sebok was there, who I think is hilarious by the way, along with a few of the players. Christina Lindley was there. That girl is hot and a damn good poker player apparently. Mike Hofer who actually won the event and 10 thousand dollars for college and his girlfriend were there. They were both super cool and it was fun to meet and hang out with people who were really down to earth and excited about poker. I also got to meet Stephanie and Garin from AP who were so fun to hang with. I’m pretty new to AP, so I’m just starting to get to know everyone and this is so fun for me. I love getting involved with everything and meeting new people and mingling. Matt V is my new partner in crime.

After dinner, Christina suggested we all go to James Beach for drinks, so we headed there. That’s the place on the movie “I Love You Man” where they go for tacos and they say it’s the best tacos in LA. I can’t really attest to that, but the drinks are nice. A little bit after we got there, I convinced Jeff Madsen to join us! I’ve known Madsen for a few years and he’s a good friend of mine, but I forget that people know him from poker. The college guys were pretty excited when he showed up so that made me pretty happy. Jeff is great with new people, so he and the boys talked about poker and hung out. After a few hours, the night started winding down for everyone since they had to head to Bluff Studios in the morning. Not Jeff and I! haha. We actually met some random girl at James Beach who invited us to go to some underground music party in Venice. We ended up hopping in a cab with 4 people we did not know and went to some abandoned looking place. When you walk inside it’s a bunch of hipster Venice people sitting on couches with a home made looking bar in the back and all these musicians were playing. It was so rad. I love stuff like that.

All in all a good night and made me proud to be part of AP. I hope the college guys had as good a time as I did. Congrats Mike (MSBHVNTWIN) on your win!

The Year in Review

03:01 PM on Sun Dec 27 2009

By Gene Bromberg

With 2009–and the decade–winding down it might be nice to peer in the rear-view mirror and look at some of the more interesting photos I took during the year. Unfortunately I can’t show the MOST interesting pics in my archives, many of them taken during the parties at the Aruba Poker Classic, but various morality clauses and extortion laws prevent me from doing so. Alas. Still, hope you’ll find some of these enjoyable:

Just a quick glimpse of the photos I took during the year. If you’d like to see more of the shots I took during the World Series of Poker or the Aruba Poker Classic just click the links and enjoy.

Last minute shopping

12:00 PM on Thu Dec 24 2009

By Matt Vengrin

Often, poker players are criticized of being lazy. Well I hate to be a part of this stereotype, but lately I am. I just managed to get a list of everyone I wanted to get gifts for, and this was last night. The thought process was the easy part, the executing of buying these gifts is a whole other story.

If you don’t know how California is let me explain: Traffic, more traffic, more traffic, and lets see… a bit more traffic. I am completely dreading the trip into LA to get these gifts, but its got to be done. Its times like these I wish I had Bill Gates money so I could charter a helicopter and touch down on every store I needed to go to.

So I am off, if I get into a UFC type fight in the isles of a store and don’t make it, be sure to remember my name.

Photo shoot day

12:00 PM on Tue Sep 15 2009

By Matt Vengrin

So I was in L.A. last Wednesday for a photo shoot and I needed to buy some clothes. So I met my publicist on Hollywood Blvd at Express. It took me awhile to get there, not because of the crazy impersonators that hounded you for photos (don’t take one with them unless your ready to shell out a dollar, “Rick James” once almost beat someone up because they didn’t pay him… but that’s a story for another day) or the hoards of people littering the street. It was because I was carrying my laptop with me, playing hands as I moved. “Matt, try on this shirt” said my publicist. “Hang on” I replied, “Im in a hand” This went on for about an hour. Not to mention in the store my air card was not getting great reception because we were in the back of the store. I eventually busted out, mid trying on clothes. Photo shoots, my goodness, I don’t know how these women do it. My partner in crime Lacey Jones does a million of these things, maybe she will give me some tips. My day included getting a tan, buying clothes, getting my eyebrows waxed (hurts) and some other stuff for one hour of photos. I did see that chick from Dexter though, Dexter’s fiancé I forget her name, she was getting a tan also. Do the moral of the story is never play poker when your shopping kids, its not a winning formula. As this is my inaugural post on the AP blog I just want to say I will be sharing many more stories with you guys and girls in the future. Some will be poker related, and some will be story related like this one. Poker has allowed me many opportunities that I would not have had if I was not given this opportunity. -Matt “The Grin” Vengrin

Update on everything Matt Vengrin:

03:00 PM on Wed Sep 9 2009

By Matt Vengrin

Its been kind of slow the past few months after the WSOP, but thats the way I like it. I have been involved in a lot of stuff thats coming up in the next few months which i am really excited about.

I just looked at houses about an hour ago here in Vegas. Every house had aspects I loved and aspects I didnt. I am basically looking for a house with a big backyard with trees and a pool/spa and some sort of waterfall. I love the ocean, and since the nearest ocean is a 4 hour drive, I have to settle for a nice waterfall when I am here in Vegas. I found one great house with the perfect backyard, but had a few interior problems, then I saw a house with a perfect inside, but the backyard was lacking. But it was my first time going out and looking so im sure I will find my dream house soon. The market is great in Las Vegas right now, and since I spend alot of time here it makes sense to buy.

I picked up a nice win in poker over the weekend too. Taking down a 100 dollar buyin for approx 13k. It had about 640 players. Let me tell you, theres no greater feeling in poker for me then taking down a big tournament, especially on a sunday which was when this one was. When I won I let out a huge “Yesssssss” and my roomate was like what happened? It feels so good to get a win because it gives me great confidence coming into September and October which are both big months for poker culminating in the Aruba Poker Classic.

The Aruba Poker Classic is my favorite tournament of the year, its lush greenery, an ocean, drinks, great people, and plenty to do on the island. What more can you ask for? I urge anyone to try to get there any way you can. Fly, drive a car-boat, or even swim from Miami. Last year I went scuba diving at a reef and saw some amazing fish. Including one that resembled a snake which kind of caught me by surprise. I also went golfing, and ate at some great steakhouses. (If you love steak, they get their beef from Argentina, which has by far the best steak if ever tasted) If you dont want to direct buy, theres a great satalite happening september 13th on Ultimate Bet, which guarantees 50 seats, thats a great way to win your way in cheap.

Thats all for now, good luck at the tables!
